What is a fractal — and how does your data become one?

A fractal is a shape that repeats its own pattern at every scale: zoom in forever and new detail keeps unfolding. The Mandelbrot set is built by running numbers through one simple equation over and over, asking whether each point stays bounded or escapes to infinity.

GenPi takes the numbers inside your data — the variants in your DNA, or the rhythms of your sleep, heart rate and activity — and maps them onto that equation's parameters: where to look, how deep to zoom, how many iterations to run, which colors to paint.

Your DNA file is read and turned into art entirely in your browser. Because your data is unlike anyone else's, so is your artwork. The image beside this is generated live, right now, on your device.
